A: A good indicator of when your garage door needs to be serviced is when it starts to become loud during operation and when it doesn’t operate as smoothly as it normally would. You can also test the balance of the garage door to see if other components may need servicing or replacing.
Perform this balance test when the garage door is in the closed or down position. Attempting this test when the garage door is open or in the up position can result in serious injury or death. We recommend you give us a call so that our trained technicians can perform the test safely.
If you still would like to perform the balance test, locate the red rope attached to the trolley along the motor rail. Pull the red rope to disconnect the trolley. By disconnecting the trolley, you can now manually open the garage door. This is helpful to know so you can open your door when the garage door remote doesn’t work or if the power is out. Now, lift up the garage door halfway. You should be able to lift the door with ease and it should balance or float on its own halfway up. If it goes up even more or falls back down, the tension in the torsion spring needs to be adjusted. Call us out for a complete garage door tune up service.
